Don't Get Caught Up!

38-40 As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.”
41-42 The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.”

Luke 10:38-42The Message (MSG)

Hello there! There's a reason for the long verse above. It's because I recently caught a Rhema and had a different understanding of these verses from one of my daily devotions just some few days ago and I know it was divine 'cos I also listened to a message talking about this same passage.
The Holy Spirit has since been making it linger in my heart so I can act on this and probably share.
So thankful it's the Holiday season and it's a time for reconnecting with old friends, family get-togethers, parties, travel and a lot of fun stuff. However, in the midst of these all, let's not forget to be intentional, selective and not get all wrapped up in what this season brings forgetting the essence of it all.
While reading those verses in the bible, I kinda put my self in Martha's shoes and I feel so bad for her. You know, when you do a lot of hard work, almost drowned in the ocean of labor all alone when there are other people that could have joined but didn't, you get all frustrated trying it all by yourself and the least  you expect is a "Weldone" or "Thank You" but all you get is "babe, that wasn't necessary at this time" Yeah......it's so annoying but the TRUTH is bitter!
When Jesus came visiting with His people, all Martha wanted was to make sure everyone was comfortable, she started cooking, cleaning, washing, scrubbing, engaging in a lot of activities, she got so overwhelmed and so angry that her sister 'Mary' couldn't even help. I'm sure she would have thought in her heart that after all these activities Jesus would single her out to bless her specially but the reverse was the case 'cos Jesus made her realize activity doesn't move Him, it's the panting heart of the kingdom that does, He told her she was busy doing NOTHING! (I know you are kinda confused, didn't she do all the work? but if you keep on doing the right thing at the wrong time, it's as good as doing nothing. For example, a student who has an important exam in 5 days but spent the whole of the 5days running errands, scrubbing, cleaning the house, washing, praying, cooking is doing the right things but definitely lacks time management when the result comes we'll all say that student did nothing!)

So many lessons I got from this Martha's story:
  • Martha was probably in serious competition with her sister and she wanted to be called "the good one" by Jesus
  • She was seeking validation from men forgetting that Jesus has the final say
  • She got too engrossed with material things, instead, Mary decided to seek first the kingdom of God so that every other thing can be added "Mathew 6:33"
  • You can't do everything without the help of God..........He is an ever-present help in times of trouble!
  • Don't be afraid to drop all your worries at the feet of Jesus just like Mary did, it's the right thing to do!
Quick questions here! are you currently on vacation from praying?, has the Christmas celebration stopped you from reading the word? this morning, has calls and messages from old friends and family wishing you compliments of the season taken the love of God in your heart?
Well......that happens! guess what?? you are not alone, but please do not forget that Jesus is still the reason for all these celebrations in the first place, don't get caught up in all the excitements this season brings by doing the right things at the wrong time like sister Martha. Give it to God and go to bed!!!
Few days until the end of this year......yaaay!!!!!! the least we all can do is give Him back all the glory He deserves.
Happy Holidays.......See you in 2018!!!!!!!

LOVE,
